When you sign in, we store your name and email address, nothing more from Google or your magic link. We also store the letters, postcards, and notebook entries you write, along with your friend connections and the dates those letters were sent and received.
When you write a letter, we also record the city and country it was sent from, the way a postmark marks where a letter began its journey. We work this out from your device's location if you allow it, or otherwise from the approximate area of your IP address. You can hide it on any individual letter, and you can turn location off entirely in your settings.
Only the sender and the intended recipient can read a letter. We do not read your letters. Notebook entries are private to you only. Postcards in your gallery are visible only to you. Your data is stored encrypted at rest, and access is limited to you and, in the case of a letter, the person you wrote to.
We don't sell your data. We don't show you ads. We don't share your information with third parties, except for the services that run the app: our database (Supabase/PostgreSQL), our email provider (Resend), our hosting (Vercel), and our product analytics (PostHog). Each of these only receives what's strictly necessary to operate.
To understand how people use slowdown and where it can be better, we record a few simple actions like writing a letter, finishing the onboarding, or accepting an invitation. This is linked to your account so we can measure things like how many people come back to write a second letter, but we never record the contents of your letters, postcards, or notebook, and we never track you across other websites.
We send you an email when a letter or postcard arrives, when someone accepts your friend request, and occasionally when we think it's been a while since you last wrote. You can unsubscribe from notification emails at any time. Each email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom.
You can delete your account from your profile settings. Deleting your account permanently removes your letters, notebook, friend connections, and all personal data from our servers. This cannot be undone.
